Pumpkin Pie, 1985
The following delightful pinup by Dave Stevens is titled ‘Pumpkin Pie’. It was published in Vamps & Vixens: The Seductive Art of Dave Stevens in 1998, but is dated 1985. It is amazing how little it matters that this pinup witch is wearing the most ridiculous and improbable costume I have ever seen. Or rather, fragments of a costume.
NB: check out the head, with rolling eyes and lolling tongue, hidden among the carved pumpkins. Strange, yes?

It looks like a lingerie ad I saw back in the late 80′s. That was also a style of artwork back then.

You seem to have a tenacious memory for lingerie ads!. And now I am really curious, when you say ‘It looks like’, is ‘it’ the wacky fragments of material struggling to defend the modesty of our smiling model or is ‘it’ the layout and style of the ad in general. ‘Cause if they were selling lingerie like that back in the 80s I may have to take back all the nasty things I have said about 80s fashion! (Oh, and find a time machine).

My wife was art director at what was once a very fashionable store in downtown DC called Garfinckel’s. The art work is very similar to the mailers they did around Valentines Day. Very similar, in fact I jumped when I saw it. It could have come from one of the ads they ran.

Dave Stevens was a great artist, especially when it came to sexy women, (Bettie Page being his fav). He will be sadly missed. Thanks for posting this one. One of my favs of Stevens’ work.
